The Acfields launch debut album ‘The Acfields’ with four state tour on September 25!

Acclaimed brother and sister duo, The Acfields (Dan and Hannah) are launching their self-titled album with the single ‘No Ups Or Downs’, a sweetly rocking, wry observation of self-contained emotional distance:

“I feel nothing at all
Like a straight line to the sun
I feel nothing at all
I ain’t got no ups or downs”

The 11 track album was recorded in Dan’s place in Brisbane and at a friend’s on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.  Written and recorded over 20 months, the album was crowdfunded with love and a contribution of $10,000 from Acfields fans. It was mixed and engineered at Nicky Bomba’s studio and mastered at Sing Sing by Ross Cockle.

Keeping to the punishing schedule of each Acfield writing a new song every two weeks, discipline was maintained with a penalty system — missed deadlines meant loss of coffee privileges for Hannah and loss of tea for Dan.

Hannah said, “Recording on the Mornington Peninsula was my fav part of the process. Being in a house and not a studio meant we had to make do with the items around us (apart from the recording equipment).
“At one stage we had firewood keeping a mic stand stable on the floor. And we rigged up a vocal booth with some mattresses and blankets! Recording in a house meant we had be mindful of the outside noise.
“At one point when Dan was recording acoustic guitar the birds were going crazy, so I had to patrol the perimeter of the house to keep them down. Bird patrol with a broomstick!”

Dan said, “I love how organically we created this album. We pieced it together bit by bit in houses and studios at different ends of the country – a bit like creating a patchwork quilt inspired by the location, musical friends that contributed and the time that we took to make sure it was right.

“Although there is obviously planning and pre-production, you never quite know how it will turn out when you start out and it’s so exciting to see how the production evolves. Ask Hannah – I’m a real perfectionist so it means a lot when I say that I’m truly satisfied and proud of what we’ve created.”

The Acfields started as a side project for Dan and Hannah, both of whom had successful solo careers as songwriters and performers. It didn’t take long for them and their fans to realise that together they were something special. They’ve since received wide acclaim, including a spot in the 4ZZZ Hottest 100.

They are veterans of many national tours and have performed with acts like Josh Pyke, The Trouble With Templeton, Lakyn Heperi and Vika & Linda Bull.

They can’t wait to hit the road and share the new album with the world, as well as their endearing on-stage sibling banter around the country.
