PLINTH and other stories is drawn from the life of the former Wild Bohemian. Some stories are true, some are almost true and some are complete fiction.  “Evocative”, “whip crack sharp” and often hilarious storytelling set in the inner city arts and music underbelly.

FINGERS

Malcolm Hill’s solo album Voir Nights won the prestigious Narnie award on 3RRR’s BLB program for Album of the Year. 2015 will see the release of Malcolm Hill’s new release ‘Fingers’ backed by his band This Is The Show.

From the story ‘Plinth’ in ‘Plinth and other stories’ by Malcolm Hill:

“I won’t play on the floor. I won’t play on the carpet of the front bar of a pub. I  must have a stage, a platform, whatever you call it. I will not have some old Anzac drunk wandering through my James Brown splits or Iggy Pop wrestle with mic stand routine; won’t have real estate agents from South Melbourne chatting on  phones obliviously walking through my high wire balancing act of tension, emotion and F Diminished shuddering grand finale! I won’t play on the floor. I must  have my stage, my Rostra, my Plinth! “

Harbour Agency Presents Skyscraper Stan and The Commission Flats Debut Album Launch Tour – ‘Last Year’s Tune’

Just got into the swing of 2015? Let troubadour rock and roll legends Skyscraper Stan And The Commission Flats take you all the way back to 2014 with the launch of Last Year’s Tune, the band’s spectacularly long-awaited, Pledge-funded debut album. To celebrate, Stan and the Flatties will be launching the album at the venerable Port Fairy Folk Festival before heading off around the countryside to bring the wicked goodness of Last Years Tune to all.

Recorded at Melbourne’s Woodstock Studios and mastered in New York City by Greg Calbi, Last Years Tune is 11-track’s worth of Stan Woodhouse’s finest songwriting. Evocative, heart-felt and totally good fun, Last Year’s Tune will get your troubadour rock and roll on like no other album of this year, last year or any year at all.

Get your piece of the Skyscraper Stan And The Commission Flat’s pie on the following Last Year’s Tour dates:

Sunday 5 April | The Loft | Warrnambool VIC

Here’s what Sydney Morning Herald had to say about ‘roots revellers’ Skyscraper Stan And The Commission Flats:

“Some came to hear established chart-toppers but most dipped their toes into unfamiliar waters too. QMF has a knack of introducing the “next big thing” as it’s about to break. Adelaide rapper Tkay Maidza has made serious waves since launching last year. Fans lined up waiting for others to exit as the packed Pavilion heaved to her beats. The historic Vue Grand Hotel was similarly cosy during gigs by Charles Jenkins and roots revellers Skyscraper Stan and The Commission Flats. Festival director Andrew Orvis noted plenty of buzz around the latter – a  typical QMF revelation.”

Ritzland Records Presents Ray Danes Second Single ‘Run To You’

‘Run To You’ debuted in Australia on 26 January on Channel 11 in an episode of ‘Neighbours’. The same episode will air in the UK in February. The song tells the story of the on again – off again love affair between ‘Daniel Robinson’ (nephew of the classic evil character Paul Robinson and son of Kylie Minogue’s character ‘Charlene’) and the hopelessly blonde ‘Amber Turner’. Daniel is desperately hoping Amber will come back to him, hence the ‘Run To You’ reference.

Ray said, “I’m really excited to have my own music featured on Neighbours! It’s such a popular TV show both in Australia and internationally and has been running for 30 years. I’m looking forward to seeing what scene the song features in. I hope everyone loves it!”

Ray Danes lives in Cairns and gigs frequently in the local music scene. Ray launched single ‘Falling’ at the Grace Darling in Melbourne in 2014.

The son of a piano teacher, Ray inherited his mother’s ear for music. A natural performer with a gift for narrative, Ray was spotted by Ritzland Records. Although early in his career, Ray was promptly encouraged to share his music with a wider audience by taking on management services. So far, Ray has.supported Ash Grunwald and won a slot at The Tablelands Folk Festival where he recorded the film clip for Van Jam.

Ray was signed to Mushroom Music Publishing in 2015.

In his spare time, Ray enjoys his unique status as a Ranga (only 2% of the world’s population are natural redheads), practicing Judo and playing his guitar.

Ray will release his debut album later this year.

A.J. STEEL PREMIERES DEBUT SINGLE ‘DROWNING ON DRY LAND’ IN SOLO ACOUSTIC SHOW – 20 NOVEMBER @ MR BOOGIE MAN!

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see a studio musician at the top of his game live. Melbourne singer-songwriter A.J. Steel premieres debut single Drowning On Dry Land in his one-night-only solo acoustic show at Mr Boogie Man
Drowning on Dry Land is a moving and evocative track mixed by ARIA and Golden Guitar Nominated Producer/Mixer/Engineer Jimi Maroudas. Maroudas has worked with Pete Murray, Kimbra and also Eskimo Joe on their ARIA No #1 album Inshalla.
Drowning on Dry Land tells the story of a common struggle – the unseen fight beneath the calm surface to stay afloat.
Afer a stint in the military, Steel headed to Melbourne with nothing but a rolled up mattress and a duffle bag.
“I’ve always been inspired by the power of a song.” Steel says. “I love the poetic magic that happens when the lyric and melody marry, letting the listener visit unfamiliar spaces in their heart.”
Steel hand-built and installed recording gear at ‘Steel Mill Studios’, otherwise known as the dining room at his suburban Melbourne home.  Drums were recorded at good friend and drummer Stephen Allred’s home in Ballarat using a small mobile recording setup. Steel’s loungeroom and hallways were also used as studio space. The hallway offered especially good acoustics for the guitars.
Drowning On Dry Land took seven months to make its way down the twisting creative pathway, from the initial stages of writing, re-writes and multiple recordings and arrangement changes,
Previous releases from A.J. Steel include 2009 EP Satellites and Cars. Single Slow Down was added to high rotation on Radar Radio and also featured on Fox FM’s Radar Artist in ‘Australian Made’. Slow Down was also added to Fox’s syndication network of over 4million subscribers Australia-wide.

The National Evening Express launch ‘This Ain’t Real’ at Whole Lotta Love on 28 November!

The National Evening Express will roll into Brunswick East on 28 November to launch their debut single ‘This Ain’t Real’ at Whole Lotta Love in Lygon Street!

A gritty mix of garage band and dirty blues, The National Evening Express will suit those who dig MC5, The Stooges and The Cramps.

The Melbourne based 4-piece features a mix of experienced Australian and New Zealand players whose influences merge and meld, bubbling into a full fever pitch when they perform live.

“This song was written in one afternoon of beer fuelled happiness to encourage you to Let Your Rock Out,” says lead singer and guitarist Sandro.

Here’s an early review for the single:

The National Evening Express – This Ain’t Real

You might recall the story of the Masters’ Apprentices third-greatest song, ‘Undecided’, which they made up on the spot in an early recording session and which much to their surprise (and without their knowledge – until they heard it on the radio) was selected by their record company to be their first single. They heard it in the car driving to a gig and got a surprise.

‘This Ain’t Real’ is ‘Undecided’ in the 21st century. Powerful, primitive, apparently tossed off yet plugged into an ancient theme of desire and demand. …

Textured, epic and propulsive, the song has a lurid vividness few could resist.

Looking forward to more from this exceptionally tight outfit. – Heidi Berg, The Dwarf

The National Evening Express is:

Sandro  – Vocals, Rhythm Guitar

Matt  – Bass, Vocals

Andrew – Lead Guitar

Rikki  – Drums, Vocals

The National Evening Express will release their first studio album later next year so keep your ears open for it!

DIANA MAY CLARK – MEET ‘THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GIRL’ – SUNDAY 30 NOVEMBER – DING DONG IN MELBOURNE

Established Melbourne-based Brazilian song interpreter Diana May Clark launches her debut original album ‘The Other Side of the Girl’ at what is sure to be an amazing and hypnotising album launch party at Ding Dong Lounge on Sunday 30th November.

Diana established her interpretive credentials by way of two award winning recordings with Guitarist (now husband) Doug de Vries; her original band “The Sunny Set’ embraces pop and psychedelic styles with her love of Brazilian music into a new mix that is unique and instantly charming.

“From the get go, Diana May Clark & The Sunny Set’s music makes you wanna undulate. Not nod your head, not tap your toes nor click your fingers – you wanna move your hips… Later, you can lie on your back staring at the sky and let the sublime blend of voice and music take you slipping through time like sunshine through tree tops.  You’ll be needing a rest after all that dance floor action.”  Pat Monaghan (Basement Disks)

Refreshingly genuine, brimming with cool guitar riffs, film-noir ripe vocals and kicking grooves;
Diana May Clark and the Sunny  Set are:
DMC – voice & keys
Doug de Vries – electric & acoustic guitars
