BOZO THE BRAVE

BOZO THE BRAVE

Based On The True Story Of The Dog Who Swam ‘The Rip’

This new children’s book tells of how a little dog swam through’The Rip’, one of the most treacherous bodies of water in the world and amazingly, made it home alive.
In 1956 author Kerri Erler’s great-grandfather fisherman Joe Wells and his cocker spaniel Bozo were returning from a day’s fishing outside ‘The Rip’ when a large ship approached their boat. While Joe was distracted by the ship the little dog fell overboard.

The clever pup knew not to fight against the powerful tidal current but to ride with it until he came close enough to shore for him to turn and swim to dry land. A remarkable combination of brains, brawn and bravery!
This beautiful book brings the adventure to life with lavish illustrations of fisherman Joe and his beloved Bozo, grandson Buzz and and the cast of dolphins, seals and seagulls who escorted Bozo on his epic journey.
To this day Bozo retains legendary status in his hometown of Queenscliff where grandson Buzz still resides, alive and well, now retired from fishing in his eighties.
“I am so excited to share this wonderful story with many more children” author Kerri Erler says. “My book is aimed at children from 3 to 8 years old and is a timeless tale of the bond between a dog and his master and the dog’s determination, love and intelligence.”

This is an ideal read at bedtime or any other time, with big, involving pictures and the warmth of Kerri’s words transporting young readers on the journey of a pup’s lifetime.

Kerri is donating $5.00 from the sale of the first 1000 copies to the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum to research and develop a special exhibition on the local fishermen and their dogs.
