The Age EG Music Awards 2007
It was one of the most memorable gigs of last year, when everyone from Paul Kelly to Dallas Crane, Barnesy and Bonnie Tyler helped The Age EG celebrate its 21st Birthday at the Prince Bandroom. And now The Age EG Music Awards are back with a vengeance. The concert, to be held at St Kilda’s Prince Bandroom on November 30, will star one of the hottest rock bands in the country, the Living End, in their only gig of the year. The EG Allstars house band will get together again to play a bunch of songs (originals and covers), with guest singers including Angie Hart, Clare Bowditch, Joe Camilleri and X’s Steve Lucas, while Jet’s Nic Cester performs his band’s songs acoustically.
The EG Music Awards, which will be decided by readers, will be presented on the night. The awards honour the best music of 2007 and will introduce a new inductee into the Hall of Fame alongside inaugural inductees TISM. Last year’s awards generated 37,000 votes. Readers can have their say this year by visiting http://egawards.theage.com.au/
The Big Day Out’s Vivian Lees said the inaugural awards filled a gap in the contemporary entertainment scene. “It was great because the audience members voted and importantly because the musicians embraced it and made it a big success with a lot of nice musical performances which you hardly see accept at genuine events.”
Tickets are only $30 (plus b/f) on sale today from record stores, the Prince public bar, www.princebandroom or 9536 1168
