Living Legends Tribute to Dave Graney & Clare Moore – Leaps & Bounds Music Festival – Gasometer Hotel, 12 July!

Arise Sir Dave Graney and Queen Clare Moore, the eternally cool royalty of Australian music.

Like other dynamic duos of rock ‘n’ roll such as Ivy & Lux from the Cramps and Bo Diddley and Lady Bo, Dave & Clare have been chasin’ their unique rock roll vision for over three decades.

Fearless and stylish, they have successfully ridden the razors edge of the musical universe because of their perfectly balanced yin and yang.

And like true artists they laughingly refuse to be pinned down and keep surprising us.

They first burst out of the St Kilda post punk scene.

We joined the Moodist’s army. We marched to their ‘Machine Machine’.

They came back from England dressed up like Buffalo Bill Cody and Annie Oakley.

Later Dave and Clare were all over the radio,TV and the Big Day Out with ‘You’re Just Too Hip, Baby’, touring with the Cruel Sea, packing out the Continental regularly.

Along the way they have played over 2000 shows and produced 30 albums including the classic ‘Night of the Wolverine’ and ‘The Soft & Sexy Sound’ albums as well as solo albums ‘The Third Woman’ and ‘Fearful Wiggings’ and film soundtracks like ‘Bad Eggs’. In 2005 they made a ‘his and hers’ double album, ‘Hashish And Liquor.’

In 1996 Dave was awarded ARIA best male artist (where he announced himself “King of Pop”) and in 1997 the video for “Feelin’ Kinda Sporty” won the ARIA best video award.

In 2007 their spoken word show ‘Point Blank’ was awarded Best Music Act at the Melbourne Fringe and in 2011 were named Best Live Act at the EG awards.

Their bands include the Moodists, the White Buffaloes, Coral Snakes, The Dave Graney Show, The Lurid Yellow Mist, Mistly and the Dames.

They have collaborated with and mentored hundreds of the their artistic peers in Australia and Europe.

And to this day they are still producing new music, playing and touring most weeks and involved in multiple projects.

NOTE: Sir Dave and Queen Clare will Not be performing at this concert but will be in the audience watching their subjects pay tribute to them

Younis Clare presents ‘I Love You Like Kanye Loves Kanye’ – single launch 6 June @ Bar Open – video clip here!

Forced to hide her mad passion for her beloved (who is far too sensible for public displays of affection), Melbourne pollinator procrastinator pop perpetrator Younis Clare has written a love song by stealth.

Younis Clare is pleased to present your new favourite song I Love You Like Kanye Loves Kanye on Saturday June 6 at Bar Open, 317 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

I Love You Like Kanye Loves Kanye takes all the love North West’s daddy has for himself and turns it into something beneficial for the world – a banging little pop song.

A teaser single prior to the launch of her debut album Groupies For Governesses, I Love You Like Kanye Loves Kanye gets under your skin with its sparkling, cheerful bounce. Written after feeling like she’d witnessed a messiah complex shindig doubling as a Kanye West gig, Younis Clare turned the dubious experience into her own cheeky declaration of love.

Having at last let loose all the feelings that had been hidden so long in song, Younis decided she might as well make an epic, no holds barred video declaration as well, drawing on everything she has learned from researching women’s romance novels.

Watch it here, young lovers: https://vimeo.com/128951682

Launching at Bar Open on Saturday 6 June from 7.30, I Love You Like Kanye Loves Kanye will give you a dose of good clean loving pop.

Also featuring Jemma Nicole, Nick Lovell, The Real Hot Bitches, and Sydney Van.

$12 door fee

Steve Kilbey and Martin Kennedy release new album – Inside We Are The Same

Steve Kilbey (The Church) and Martin Kennedy (All India Radio) have released three albums the most recent of which MOJO gave 4 STARS: “Sumptuous meeting of Australian soundscaper and the head Churchman.”

Now comes their fourth studio album Inside We Are The Same which takes them to new and unexpected places.

From the joyous children’s choir in This is the Universe to the late-70s new wave vibe of Ame- nia and the spacerock of Oh My Glad, the album melds Kilbey’s “characterful cool poise and an imaginative lyrical lexicon” (MOJO) with Kennedy’s “lush melodies that marry electronic soundscapes to soaring tunefulness” (TheBigTakeover)

Steve Kilbey & Martin Kennedy unleash Inside We Are The Same in July 2015.

The Vanguard Welcomes the Supreme Ms Mary Wilson: Up Close, 14 & 15 June for two intimate dates!

The Vanguard Welcomes the Supreme Ms Mary Wilson: Up Close, 14 & 15 June

We are proud to welcome the fabulous Mary Wilson for two intimate dates only at The Vanguard in Newtown on Sunday 14 June and Monday 15 June!

A well-loved and iconic performer, Mary Wilson delivers thrilling performances of standards such as New York State of Mind, I Am Changing and Both Sides Now in her Up Close show.

The author of Dreamgirls: My Life As A Supreme and Supreme Faith: Someday We’ll Be Together, Mary is famously generous for sharing tales with her audiences from her storied life and will be performing the most intimate shows of her six city Australian tour at The Vanguard.

As a founding member of The Supremes, she helped set a record for the most consecutive Number One hits by an American group when Back in My Arms Again rose to the top of the Billboard singles chart, followed in rapid succession by Where Did Our Love Go, Baby Love, Come See About Me and Stop! In the Name of Love, among others.

Rising from the poverty of Detroit’s Brewster housing project to become Motown’s most consistent hit makers and the most popular female group of the Sixties, The Supremes had a distinctive style

and soulfulness that appealed to both black and white listeners at a time when racial divides were fierce and the civil rights movement was gathering momentum. The Supremes not only epitomised the Motown sound, their popularity in the Sixties was second only to the Beatles.

Later career adventures saw her stand alone as a solo recording artist, a favourite performing artist

in Las Vegas, an activist and even as a Cultural Ambassador appointed by Colin Powell for the U.S State Department.

Be sure to see this amazing performer and powerful woman Up Close at The Vanguard, No. 42 King Street in Newtown, doors at 6.30pm.

Tickets are available at www.thevanguard.com.au or by phone (03) 9557 9409. See next page for details of other shows.

“If Wilson’s command of stage and song surprises people, then they just haven’t really been listening for the past 30 years or so.” – PopEntertainment.com

“One singer brought the house down… glory be to the heavens Mary Wilson’s luxuriously exquisite voice rang ‘like a bell’ as they say, and peeled through the cavernous Festival Theatre auditorium so clearly, so beautifully, it brought tears to the eyes.” – Australian Stage

Thomas Hugh – ‘Them Dams Never Break’ launch dates – 7&8 May

Austin Texas native Thomas Hugh will launch his new single ‘Them Dams Never Break’ and a companion film clip from his new ep ‘Sum =’ at The Post Office Hotel in Coburg on May  7th and at The Bridge Hotel in Castlemaine on May  8th.

‘Them Dams Never Break’  is the second single to be lifted from ‘Sum =’ and the accompanying clip is more like a mini-film, shot in the glorious Mornington Peninsula wine country in atmospheric sepia tones.

Thomas says, “I remember where I was when I wrote ‘Them Dams’…in a real mood down on the peninsula in the quiet of the day wondering how certain things happen to some people…good or bad.. and not others, as if every single thing we do is fate. Perhaps it is.”

Sum = is a combustion of new-folk and indie pop, with old time storytelling and the occasional grand flourish thrown in for good measure.

Sum = was recorded with Roger Bergodaz (drums), Dean Addison (bass) and Shannon Bourne (guitar).  It creates a sound that hints at a solid blend of excellent musical influences and a natural affinity for melody and telling a twisted tale.

A stylistic sampler, Sum = also features the harmony infused bittersweet Canterbury Road, the breezy 70′s California echo of Chrome Bike and the spooky harmonica tinged ode to a girl with Dylan posters Where All the Spiders Crawl, to a journey through to country life with Little Things (Sting)

Thomas plays gigs as a solo troubadour and sometimes accompanied by friends  all around Victoria, New South Wales and in the US when he travels there.

Skyscraper Stan’s new album hits Oz – wanna review it?

Hey Music People

Guess what I have in my office right now?

That’s right. ‘Last Year’s Tune’, the debut album from Skyscraper Stan and The Commission Flats!  Hot Damn!

If you’re wondering what it’s like, it’s a little like this:

The world according to Skyscraper Stan and the Commission Flats is a hazy, sweat-soaked dream of sunburnt country towns, dirty inner-city intersections and hot, muggy bedrooms. A superb lyricist, Stan has earned a reputation as a songwriter-to-watchand and The Commission Flats are known around the traps for their incendiary, high octane performances.   This album is a must-listen for fans of Nick Cave, Timber Timbre, Father John Misty, Old Crow Medicine Show and M. Ward.

If you want a copy for review – and I know you do,  please email me at karen@karenconradpublicity.com.  x
