Simon Imrei – ‘Let Go’ single launch on Sunday Oct 29 @Bar Open

Introducing SIMON IMREI.

Simon Imrei
is proud to launch his new single ‘Let Go’ on Sunday October 29 at Bar Open, Fitzroy, 317 Brunswick St, Fitzroy, 8pm.

Tickets are $10 +bf at: http://bit.ly/SimonImrei.

Simon will be joined by his full live band, along with special guests Delsinki Records & Brooke Taylor and Millington.

‘Let Go’ is the debut single from Simon’s new 2-part album ‘’The Sum of Scenes’ to be released in early 2018.

Lyrically, the song plays with the idea of fear and the struggle to come to terms with yourself but also the difficulty in portraying your “true self” to the outside world.

‘Let Go’ is punctuated by ethereal vocals and eerie synth undertones. A signature acoustic guitar riff weaves through every verse, mingling with lush harmonies and swelling guitars.

It was recorded and mixed by Kye Thomas at Salt Studios and mastered by Adam Dempsey at Deluxe Mastering.

Players:

Leigh Fisher (Drums), Josh Bridges (Bass), Robbie Melville (Guitar), Sam Cope (Keys), Louise MacGregor (BV), Nova Marsh (BV), Rob Grozdan (BV)

About Simon:

While Simon’s name may not be immediately familiar to you, chances are you’ve heard him. He has been writing, recording and performing since 2005, performing live at venues large and small, including Queenscliff and Port Fairy Folk Festivals and touring Adelaide & Sydney. He was a member of alt-country band The Wildes (now Lachlan Bryan & The Wildes) and also toured with The Basics, Jess Harlen and Nicholas Roy.

As a solo artist, he has released two fine EPs and an album called ‘Branching Inward’ in 2012 before taking a break from the hectic music scene.

Belle Phoenix – Bittersweet album launch Friday 14th July @ Bella Union

Melbourne singer/songwriter Belle Phoenix packed her suitcase in 40°c Australian heat and flew off into a New York snow blizzard with nothing more than a pair of elven-style platform boots and a crappy acoustic guitar, let alone a mission to make the 10 songs in her head tangible.

After many months of exchanging emails and demos with musician, producer and long-time David Bowie collaborator Mark Plati (Bowie’s band member during the ‘Heathen’ & ‘Earthling’ albums), she was invited to meet Mark in NYC. Belle was re-energised by the opportunity to collaborate with Mark Plati. Belle turned up at Plati’s Alice’s Restaurant studio in New York – where both Bowie and Prince had graced – simply pressing on a buzzer in the snow.

“I recorded the demos using second-hand and borrowed instruments which included a weird, 80’s synthesizer. I was in a frenzy to capture the orchestral sounds I was hearing in my head”, Belle says.

Plati had arranged a band for the recordings which included members from Toronto and the UK, and it was agreed that the band be recorded as a whole to capture the live energy of the music. Before long, they were on their way to record in Phase One studios in Toronto; a studio with a long history of hosting rock’n’roll legends such as Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, John Lennon and more recently Rihanna and Drake.

Now after almost a decade, the album is ready to rise from the ashes like her namesake. Fusing noir, dark ambience and art pop à la Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and Lana Del Ray, Belle Phoenix’s album Bittersweet is ready to finally see the light of day.

Bittersweet will be launched at Bella Union in Carlton on Friday 14th July with support from Jo Meares with Mark McCartney.

DAVIES WEST – THE BIG DRIFT Album Launch @Bella Union, Saturday 10th June

Father-daughter folk ensemble Davies West will be launching their debut album, The Big Drift, at Bella Union on Saturday 10th June.

The night will be focused on taking you through the stories from the album, from youth, to love and to loss.

Davies West are a Melbourne-based folk outfit comprised of a father, daughter and trio of long-time friends. Alexandra and her father Ross have been singing together since before she can recall. It all began years ago when her family bought a property on Davies Road West in Gippsland. Shivering, starlit sing-a-longs on an outstretched veranda.

This southern region of Victoria has played a prominent role in the entire band’s lives, from camping at Walkerville North to frolicking through the picturesque scenes of Wilson’s Prom.

Fittingly, they named their debut album, The Big Drift, after one of these nostalgic spots. It is a concept album that explores the journey and experiences that shape a lifetime.

Davies West will be joined for their launch by the emerging singing power trio (and some of their best friends), The Charlie’s.

Belle Phoenix launches new Mark Plati produced single tonight, 15 Feb, Retreat Hotel!

Melbourne singer/songwriter Belle Phoenix packed her suitcase in 40°c Australian heat and flew off into a New York snow blizzard with nothing more than a pair of elven-style platform boots and a crappy acoustic guitar, a woman a mission to make the 10 songs in her head tangible.

‘Maker of the Man’ is the first single to be released from Belle Phoenix’s lost album ‘Bittersweet’. It will be launched at The Retreat in Brunswick on Wednesday 15th February. Entry is free.

10 years ago or so, after many months of exchanging emails and demos with musician, producer and long-time David Bowie collaborator Mark Plati (Bowie’s band member during the ‘Heathen’ & ‘Earthling’ albums), Belle was invited to meet Mark in NYC.

Clad in Gothic black (mourning the loss of her previous band), Belle was re-energised by the opportunity to collaborate with Mark Plati. She turned up at Plati’s Alice’s Restaurant studio in New York – a space that both Bowie and Prince graced – and pressed on the buzzer.

After months of rehearsal, they were on their way to record in Phase One studios in Toronto; a studio with a long history of hosting rock’n’roll legends such as Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, John Lennon and more recently Rihanna and Drake. The band fell apart shortly after the tragic death of member Dave ‘Soulfingaz’ Williams.

“I was very surprised and happy that Mark had felt it necessary to preserve the original arrangements, along with the instrumentation on the original, demo recordings.”

Now after almost a decade, the album, ‘Bittersweet’ is ready to rise from the ashes like her namesake. Fusing noir, dark ambience and art pop à la Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and Lana Del Ray, Belle Phoenix’s lost album is ready to finally see the light of day.

Kill the Darling launch ‘The Tower, Our World and its Lovers’ single at Bakehouse in the Scrap Museum today!

Evocative Melbourne indie pop band Kill the Darling launch their single ‘The Tower, Our World and its Lovers’ at Bakehouse Studios today, Friday 3 February in the Scrap Museum with support from Thando and Cash.

Recorded in the rural Victorian town Bunyip, the single illustrates the magnetic beauty of their live performance, while the film clip for ‘The Tower, Our World and its Lovers’ captures the song’s mysticism. It explores the power of women and the superstitions that surround them.

Like the film clip, their music is cinematic, creating lush soundscapes with both vocal and guitar loops and allegorical lyrics. Shot entirely outdoors in Victoria’s Strathbogie Ranges, it is an eerie and visually stunning meditation on relationship to land and feminine strength. The clip was conceptualized by the band’s Tasha Lloyd and realized by Caitlyn O’Grady and Sammie Jackson. It was funded by a band-run Pozible campaign.

Here’s the link to the ToneDeaf premier story and film clip: http://www.tonedeaf.com.au/494104/premiere-kill-the-darling.htm
