GIO – ‘REAL’ SINGLE LAUNCH @ REVOLVER UPSTAIRS 16 NOVEMBER – HIP HOP SPECIAL!

GIO – ‘REAL’ SINGLE LAUNCH FROM DEBUT LONG PLAYER

Freestyle hiphop artist and multi-instrumentalist Giovanni ‘Gio’ Agosta is proud to present the title single from his upcoming album ‘Real.’

Gio grew up in Werribee exposed to multiple musical genres and soaking up various multi-ethnic influences.

Gio said, “When I was about 12 years old I used to sit in my room with my guitar singing ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ over and over and I’m a massive fan of Bob Dylan. I guess I was about 14 when I found 2pac, Biggie, JayZ, Lil Wayne.

Shortly after that I moved out of home and lived in a bunch of places pretty down and out commerical flats – and really started to take rap seriously because I didn’t want to be stuck in the flats all my life and I feel like there are things I want to say.” Other local artists such as Jimmy Cupples also had an impact on Gio as he discovered basic vocal scales, rhymthic patterns and chord progressions which he says “…had a huge impact on Real.”

Now nineteen years of age, Gio lists Kendrick Lamar, Hoodie Allen and Aussies like Illy, Bliss N Eso, Allday as influences.

For his album ‘Real’ he enlisted producer Gio enlisted producer Mark Belcastro of Cavern Sound Studios for ‘Real’. Belcastro says, “When Gio’s on stage, he steps it up to a whole new level, he instantly connects and activates with the crowd and they become part of his show.”

After creating a small but persistent buzz with his 2012 mixtape ‘Evergreen’, Gio has shared a stage with Stretchy, Codix, N’fa Jones, Mind Over Matter & M-Phazes to name a few.

Gio will launch ‘Real’ on 16th of November at Revolver Upstairs. Doors open at 9pm.
Supports: MCMJD, Real Music, Stretchy & High Nights. Tix at the door – $15 plus booking fee.

Farewell Lou Reed – Rock Star, Poet, New York City Personified. Office closed today.

loureed

Lou Reed. The antidote to all that hippie bullshit. I loved him for that. For the shock treatment. For the drag queens and the bisexuals. For being a glorious bastard. For the drugs. For not giving one fuck what anyone else wanted. For the truth and for the lies, too. For the streets of New York. For Berlin. For the art and the grit and all three chords. And for the words – like graffiti on my heart. There wasn’t anything Lou couldn’t do with the words. He had the intellect, the courage and a mighty power. Remembering the magic and feeling the loss today.

MIKELANGELO AND THE BLACK SEA GENTLEMEN @ SPOTTED MALLARD FRIDAY, 1 NOVEMBER!

2013 Age Music Victoria Best Male Artist Nominee Mikelangelo, brings his group The Black Sea Gentlemen to Melbourne to play the Spotted Mallard’s 1st Birthday on Friday 1 November.

A heady mix of music, theatre and black humour, Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen’s signature sound blends Balkan melodies, European Kabaret Noir and Spaghetti Western – a heady cocktail that plumbs the depths of sophisticated irreverence. Captained by Mikelangelo’s extraordinary, sonorous vocals, the Gentlemen sail their ship of fools through oceans of tragi-comedy, storms of melodrama and waves of eccentricity, leaving audiences weeping with laughter in their wake.

Mikelangelo formed the Black Sea Gentlemen in 2000 with members in Melbourne, Sydney and the South Coast of NSW. The group have gone on release three highly regarded independent albums, won multiple awards and have toured widely through Australia and the world to rave reviews, from Sziget Festival (Hungary), to the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, Mona Foma, Melbourne International Festival, The Edinburgh Festival and London’s West End.

2013 has been a great year for the band, seeing them funded by International Pathways for a four week tour of the UK in May that included shows at the Aussie BBQ in London, Norfolk and Norwich Festival and Brighton Festival, where they played sold out shows, garnered five star reviews and won two music awards. The group were also funded by Playing Australia for an extensive tour through WA and NT during September and are currently working on a pilot for their own TV series with best selling author Elliot Perlman.

Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen last played in Melbourne for their tenth anniversary tour, selling out a three night run at the Famous Spiegeltent. This will be Mikelangelo’s first show in Melbourne since disbanding his group of three and half years The Tin Star in July this year. The lush atmosphere of the Spotted mallard will be the perfect venue for him to return to the local live scene with the devilishly handsome and frighteningly talented Black Sea Gentlemen.

Featuring:

Mikelangelo – Lead Vocals and guitar

Rufino the Catalan casanova – Violin and vocals

The Great Muldavio – Clarinet and vocals

Gudio Libido – Piano Accordion and vocals

Littla Ivan – Doublebass and vocals

LACHLAN BRYAN AND THE WILDES – ROADTESTING TUNES FROM BLACK COFFEE NOW!

“I’ve been drinking coffee since I was eight years old”, says Lachlan Bryan. “I found it counteracted the valium and always kept me focused. My grandfather taught me to drink it black as pitch and hot as hell, and I’ve pretty much lived my life by that philosophy”.

blackcoffee

Black Coffee is the brand new, undeniably uplifting new album from country singer/songwriter Lachlan Bryan, recorded this year with his own ragged group of Melbournian alt-country misfits The Wildes. It’s a genre-defying collection of songs, tracked live in the studio and fusing elements of old-school country, rockabilly, folk-balladry and gospel-tinged rockin-soul.

Since emerging in 2009 with The Wildes’ first LP Ballad of a Young Married Man, Bryan has earned a reputation as a serious songwriter with a unique gift for plunging the depths of despair and depravity, only to emerge with a heart full of hope and tongue placed firmly in cheek.

Recently he’s shared stages with legends such as Steve Earle and John Hiatt, and appeared at major festivals from Byron Bay’s famous Bluesfest to Gympie’s infamous annual Music Muster.

In 2012 Lachlan released acclaimed solo album Shadow of the Gun, and embarked upon an epic 23 State tour across the USA. It was on this tour that he wrote most of what would become the new record, inspired by run-down hotels, roadside diners, desert landscapes and cheap, supermarket six-packs. The title track, for instance, was written at 9am on a napkin at a Mexican restaurant outside of Chicago.

The Wildes – aka Mat Duniam (drums), Shaun Ryan (bass) and Andy Wrigglesworth (guitar) – began playing together again last summer, and immediately embraced the new songs. On the album they are joined by Bill Chambers, Texan pedal-steel wizard Tommy Detamore, soul-diva Zoë Rinkel and banjo-extraordinaire Rod McCormack. Special mention should be made of Melody Pool, Bryan’s longtime ‘surrogate sister’, who sings backing vocals on seven of the tracks and duets on album-closer Forty Days and Nights.

Black Coffee is alternative-country in the truest sense of the phrase, and will be available in stores and on iTunes on September 27 through WJO Distribution.
Fans can pre-order a signed copy now from www.lachlanbryan.com

A few words from the press:

“…whilst Lachlan has his influences, he is the one that the next generation of artists will be compared to ” Chris Snow, Joy FM
“…imagine Nick Cave fronting Steve Earle’s band The Dukes and you’ll have gone some way towards understanding The Wildes ” Jason Walker, musician and author of Gods Own Singer: A Life of Gram Parsons
““Lachlan Bryan is an extraordinary songwriter. His songs are dark and layered expressions of human frailties and foibles, fragile hopes and possibilities” Sue Jarvis, Capital News
Lachlan will be roadtesting the songs from Black Coffee at venues here and there solo around Australia prior to his official launch at Tamworth Country Music Festival with The Wildes in January A national tour with The Wildes will be announced in coming weeks.

Delsinki Records ‘Burnt out By the Light’ @Toff In Town, 6 October

delsinki

Melbourne based singer songwriter Delsinki Records (aka Craig Johnston) is pleased to launch the second single from his debut EP on Sunday, October 6 at Toff In Town from 7pm.

He will be joined in a rare Melbourne appearance by Sydney troubadour Karl Broadie, who is launching his long awaited new album and by pirate shred specialist Citrus Jam.

Burnt Out by the Light was written in memory of Johnston’s former band mate and harmonica player Sonny Lewis who passed late last year and you can view the companion animated video clip here: http://youtu.be/fs4fPT1aC5A.

Delsinki Records is the first solo ep Johnston has released and earlier this year he took it on the road, playing Hobart, Sydney and Melbourne, also appearing at the Adventure Bay Blues & Roots Festival and the inaugural Leaps & Bounds Music Festival.

The four song ep also contains three other tracks – In Over My Head, Sanchez and What You Dream Is Not Your Fault, Each track has a corresponding film clip, which will be shown at the Toff as part of the multimedia presentation to launch Burnt Out By The Light.
Prior to Delsinki Records, Johnston was the founding member of a band called Gretchen Lewis (2002), still a going concern whose high-octane sound continues to captivate Melbourne audiences.

Last year he performed at the Sydney Opera House, The Perth Concert Hall and the Wool Shed (Gnaraloo) as part of the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s The Reef – a creative collaboration between Richard Tognetti, Mick Sowry & Jon Frank. This trip was the inspiration for some of the material on this EP.

Craig also sang along side Brian Ritchie from (The Violent Femmes) as a part of the 2013 The Reef Australian/Hong Kong Tour, which started in Brisbane and finished up in Sydney at the Opera House before finishing with a flourish in Hong Kong.

Tix $10 on the door at Toff In Town, Second Floor, Curtin House, 252 Swanston St, Melbourne on Sunday, October 6 from 7pm.

ALEX & THE SHY LASHLIES ANNOUNCE DOUBLE A SIDE 7″ VINYL ON PURE POP RECORDS & NATIONAL TOUR!

Once Upon a Time:

Around six years ago – a tall, shy teenager with a Lyle Lovett circa 1985 haircut ambled into Pure Pop Records store. He shuffled about looking at this and that before introducing himself properly as an aspiring musician to proprietor Dave Stevens. Naturally Dave promptly offered him a gig playing in the intimate confines of the Pure Pop Courtyard that very Friday night.

When the very young, very shy Alex Lashlie opened his mouth that first night, he revealed a stunning Buckley-esque voice and a lyrical sensibility that belied his tender years and enthralled the crowd. He was invited to play again and again. And again.

And so it began.

Alex played every Friday for the next 18 months and became one of Pure Pop’s favourite artists. Audiences watched in wonder while his raw talent developed over the months. He made lots of musical friends through Dave and through his performances at Pure Pop and was invited to play more gigs, even scoring a coveted guest spot on one of Melbourne’s best musical events, Charles Jenkins’ Winter Ball 2012.

Then Alex went to Europe and played gigs there and wrote a bunch of songs, as you do when you’re 20 and you’re in Europe. When he returned to Oz he formed the band Alex & The Shy Lashlies with Etta Curry and Jeff May and took this tightly knit troupe into the studio to record two new songs for the newly reborn Pure Pop Records label.

Ancient history lesson:

Pure Pop Records began life as a record label run from a spare bedroom and released a number of CD’s up until 2005 when Dave bought the Pure Pop Records store.

“The label was put on hiatus, but we’re back. It’s absolutely fitting and proper that the first release on the reborn label is Pure Pop homeboy Alex Lashlie with Alex & The Shy Lashlies’ stunning double-A side 7″ vinyl single. I know this is the beginning of great things for Alex and for my label, too,” he said.

Download ‘309’ – new single from Lachlan Bryan & The Wildes (with Bill Chambers)

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Lachlan Bryan and his band The Wildes are pleased to present ‘309’, the debut single from long awaited new album ‘Black Coffee’.

You can fairly smell the dust from the road on this rollicking tale of love, treachery and derring-do which concludes with the warning “by the time they hear the sirens there will be no trace of me.” The song was co-written with Bill Chambers, who also sings on the recording.

“Bill and I liked this song a lot”, says Lachlan, “and when it came time to record – it only seemed right to share the vocals. It appeals to the wicked side in both of us”.

“This is the opening track to an album I’m extremely proud of” he continues “and really excited for you to hear”.

‘309’ finds Lachlan and The Wildes together again and in top form following last year’s acclaimed solo album ‘Shadow of the Gun.’
