The EG 21st Birthday Bash – Starring the EG Allstars with guests including Spiderbait’s Kram, Dallas Crane with Jimmy Barnes, Renee Geyer, Stephen Cummings, Kim Salmon, Ron Peno, Dan Kelly, Angie Hart, 67 Special’s Ash Santilla, Mia Dyson and Rebecca Barnard singing classic Australian songs. Hosted by MC Dave Graney, the night will also include a surprise international guest, as well as the inaugural EG Music Awards.

Bridget a’Beckett review – Drum magazine Sydney

Bridget a’Beckett has just returned from an awesome mini tour of

The Bridget a’Beckett EP

The silky voice of this girl from Tumbarumba is as lush as her single’s
production. Her songwriting has a certainty and sophistication that
belies her bacdkground: there’s no country in this articulate selection
of classic piano based singer/songrwriter indie pop. A’Beckett is a
natural storyteller and she delivers those stories with an ease and
delicacy without ever slipping into the colloquial style of Missy
Higgins or the saccharine of Delta Goodrum, both of whom to which she
has been compared (although she shares a producer with the latter.)
Three’s a subtle earthiness that grounds it all and makes this EP a
real treat to the ears.

REVIEW:

In short: Aussie reggae great skillfully remixed.

Fronted by Nicky Bomba, who has collaborated with such leading artists as Joe Camilleri, Kate Ceberano and the John Butler Trio, this is an outfit that holds the title of Australia’s No.1 exponent of good-time reggae.

With ‘Bomba vs Laroz’ the band presents 10 choice cuts from last year’s brilliant ‘Learn To Breathe’ album as reworked by mixmaster Laroz. The recording also features two exciting new songs.

This is an upbeat recording that highlights Bomba’s smooth reggae stylings and presents the band in a way that is fresh and accessible to those with tastes that lean more towards funk, hip-hop and soul than reggae.

However, Laroz’s greatest mixing achievements on this album are its old-school dub reggae-styled tracks, such as ‘Black Cat’ and ‘One Fine Day.’

For a dance-oriented audience, the cool funk of ‘Kiss Your Fate’ and ‘Essence Changed’ deserve honourable mentions.

Hey guitar lovas,

Axe maestro and rock composer Adrian Belew joins the hottest hostess in Oz Ms Julia Z and RocKonnoisseur Brian Nankervis next Saturday at 9.15 pm on RockWiz on SBS! You’ll have to tune in to see what song he sang with the mystery female guest on the night… and to hear the RockWiz orchestra playing their version of King Crimson’s “Elephant Talk” with The Mighty Belew. Tasty stuff!

What is Ross getting up to?

Well….he’s just been inducted to the Aria Hall of Fame, mixing a new album and getting ready to do two major gigs (with Daddy Cool), touring with Mondo Rock as part of the Countdown Tour, gigging with his own bands The Urban Legends and the Ross Wilson Trio and writing songs for his forthcoming solo album. Oh, and touring with Chris Isaak at the Day On The Green concert series…Is that enough yet???
